5 Ways to Meditate Without Sitting Still

For this year's World Meditation Day, we honour the peace that can be found in movement. Sitting still and silent is not for everyone. For some of us, meditation is a state of motion. In the rhythm of steps, the flow of the sea, or the feel of fabric under our fingers.

Here are 5 ways we love to practice mindfulness through movement:

 1. Crafting Something

Sew, bead, shape clay, weave. Let your hands take the lead and feel your mind grow still through the repetition and rhythm.

2. Traditional movement

Whether it’s Yoga, dance, Qi Gong or Tai Chi, traditional movement has been its own kind of prayer for centuries.

3. Play time with furry friends

Spending time with our pets can be truly therapeutic. Through innocence and unconditional love, they teach us the importance of being present. Take your dog (or a friend's dog) for a walk. Feel the ground beneath your feet as you let them lead you into the moment

4. Saltwater Therapy

Duck-diving, riding a wave, or simply floating with the tide, it all counts. Time in the ocean invites awe and awareness, quieting the mind and washing everything clean.

5. Build Your Own Sanctuary

Take time to create a space that’s just for you (bonus points if it’s outside). Whether it’s a quiet corner of your home or a makeshift tent strung up between trees, be intentional. Think about colours, textures, scents, and objects that feel grounding. Make it somewhere you want to be. A place to read, pull a tarot card, sip tea, or simply breathe.
